A wedding well worth the wait

I first met Nicole and Lawrence at Nicole’s cousin’s wedding, so it was lovely to be part of their own day. They had moved their original 2024 plans when Lawrence was selected for Scotland’s EURO squad. A year later, everyone was more than ready to celebrate.

As a football fan, getting to photograph a Scotland international’s wedding was a real privilege. Since the wedding, Lawrence has gone on to represent Scotland at the 2026 World Cup and become Rangers captain. What stayed with me most from their day, though, was how kind and welcoming the two of them and their families were.

A lovely morning with the girls

The morning at Seamill Hydro was full of family moments. Their daughters were right in the middle of it, from getting ready to peeking through a balloon. There was champagne, laughter and a big hug around every corner.

Nicole’s dress from Opus Couture was stunning, with Stephanie McKinlay on make-up, Pam Doc Hair on hair and Don’t Stress the Dress helping with the finishing touches. JAM Events brought beautiful white flowers to the day. Her dad’s reaction when he saw her ready was lovely.

Lawrence and the boys were looking the part in their suits from Slater Made to Order. The staircase gave us a great setting for a few photographs before they headed to the ceremony.

An emotional ceremony by the sea

Caroline Mortimer led the ceremony, with the coast beyond the windows and all their people around them. There was no hiding the emotion as Nicole walked down the aisle with her dad.

The girls brought their own little moments, and the guests gave us lovely reactions throughout. I photographed the vows, the first kiss and the cheers, then kept watching as Nicole and Lawrence relaxed into that just-married feeling.

Two girls, two hundred guests and plenty of hugs

This was the biggest wedding I had photographed, and getting everyone together on the steps was a moment in itself. With the larger group done, we made time for their daughters, families and wedding party.

I love the photograph of the four of them holding hands. Alongside all the scale and excitement, this was a wedding about their wee family. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were brilliant too, bringing plenty of energy to the photographs by the coast.

Seamill portraits and a walk along the beach

Seamill Hydro looked fantastic after its refurbishment. The Firth Pavilion staircase and the hotel entrance gave us beautiful settings before we headed outside for some air and those views across to Arran.

The beach is a huge part of what makes a wedding here special. You can have the elegance of the hotel and then, a short stroll away, open sky, the sea and space for the veil to move. Nicole and Lawrence were so easy together. A walk, a few laughs and a little time beneath the veil gave us a lovely mix of photographs.

The party started at dinner

Billy Reid’s magic had Nicole and the guests completely caught up in the moment. Then Jonny Ruiz from Tartan Entertainment had the place bouncing as the meal and celebrations got under way.

The DJ battles and five minutes of madness before the speeches were unbelievable. Napkins were in the air, guests were singing and everyone got involved. Jonny kept that energy going from the meal right through to midnight. What a job.

Speeches full of heart and humour

Nicole’s dad delivered a speech with the perfect mix of funny stories and heartfelt words. The top table reactions say it all. Lawrence’s speech brought more smiles, and there was no shortage of laughter from the guests.

This is why I love photographing speeches. The person holding the microphone is only part of it. A parent laughing, a friend trying to hold it together, Nicole looking across the table: all those moments belong in the story.

A little evening light on the coast

Later, we stepped outside again as the light softened. The beach gave us a quieter part of the day, with a few close portraits beneath the veil and a wider view of the couple against the coastline.

From above, you can see just how beautiful the setting is: the sand, the water and Arran on the horizon, with the two of them together in the middle of it all.

Surrounded by their people

Back inside, it was straight into the evening celebrations. Nicole and Lawrence came in with their hands raised, then shared their dance surrounded by family and friends. A room full of people who were delighted for them, and a brilliant way to finish the story.

The sea is a big part of the appeal, but I would keep beach portraits flexible until we see the wind, tide and light on the day. A short second outing in the evening can give us a very different feel from the earlier photographs around the hotel.

For a larger wedding, a focused family photograph list helps everyone get back to the celebrations. The Firth Pavilion staircase and indoor spaces give us options if the coast is wet or windy, so your plans do not have to depend on a perfect sunset.
