A morning full of laughter

Natalie looked absolutely stunning, and her girls brought the energy right from the morning preparations. There was plenty of laughing between the finishing touches, the dress going on and those last few moments before leaving for the ceremony.

I love having photographs of that part of the day alongside the finished bridal portraits. The people around you, the jokes and the anticipation all deserve their place in the story.

A ceremony full of smiles

Falside Mill's stone walls and fairy lights made such a lovely setting for Natalie and Jamie's ceremony. There was plenty to photograph on the way down the aisle, including a very smart young ring bearer and a four-legged guest.

The smiles were everywhere. I kept watching the guests and bridesmaids as well as Natalie and Jamie: the shared looks, quiet grins and proper laughs make these ceremony photographs feel alive. Then came the kiss and a very happy walk back down the aisle.

Wind in the veil and a crowd up for fun

Outside, the wind had its own ideas about Natalie's veil. We went with it, and it gave us some of my favourite moments: the veil flying, the two of them laughing and the wedding party cheering them on.

There were family photographs, time with their dog and a few portraits around the stone buildings and camper van. With around 130 guests celebrating, there was always another conversation or laugh happening nearby.

Speeches that had everyone in tears, then howling

Jamie's speech to Ezra was a proper lump-in-the-throat moment. The room had those lovely, emotional reactions that you cannot plan, and I was so glad to be there to photograph them.

Then the best men turned the mood around completely. That photograph of Jamie had the room howling. The top table reactions say it all. The food was great too, and the whole reception had such a brilliant atmosphere.

A wee race on Kingsbarns beach

After dinner we headed down to Kingsbarns beach. It was a chance for Natalie and Jamie to have a little time together, with the sea, sand and big open sky giving us a completely different backdrop from the venue.

We had them running along the beach and turned it into a wee race. Natalie is a PE teacher, so she was certainly up for that. The photographs are full of movement and laughter, which is exactly how I wanted this part of their day to feel. We made a few quieter portraits too, before heading back to the celebrations.

Stevie Bennett keeping the party going

Stevie Bennett from Tartan Entertainment was unbelievable on the decks. The dance floor had so much energy, with guests throwing themselves into the music and Natalie right in the middle of the fun.

Big hugs, novelty glasses, dancing and a few impressive moves finished off a day that had given us a bit of everything. What a crowd, and what a place to celebrate.

Planning your photographs at Falside Mill

Falside Mill is in Kingsbarns, near St Andrews and Crail. I loved having the stone buildings and courtyard for portraits while keeping the couple close to their guests. For Natalie and Jamie, a trip to Kingsbarns beach after dinner added another chapter to the photographs.

The stone buildings and courtyard give us plenty to work with at the venue. Kingsbarns beach is a separate outing, so any beach photographs need time for getting there and back as well as a check on the weather and tide.

Natalie and Jamie went after dinner, which kept their earlier celebrations flowing. For your wedding, I would work out the best window around your meal and the season, keeping the beach as an optional extra if conditions suit.
