Back with the Park family

Having photographed Kaitlyn's siblings' weddings, it was lovely to be back with this family and their friends. There is something special about walking into a wedding morning and seeing so many familiar faces. You already know there will be plenty of stories, plenty of laughter and a very warm welcome.

Kaitlyn got ready with the girls in the Coach House, while Scott and the boys were in the main house. With six bridesmaids and six groomsmen, there was always something happening. Kaitlyn had the Fireball out early, and the photographs tell you everything you need to know about the mood of that morning.

Confetti, friends and a few daft moments

The celebrations carried straight on outside. Confetti, cheering friends and a wedding party who were up for a laugh made the group photographs a lot of fun. I want those pictures to feel like the people in them, so there is always room for a bit of silliness alongside the family photographs.

We made time for Kaitlyn and Scott together too. The grounds and tree-lined driveway gave us lovely space to move around, and they brought all the energy we needed. A piggyback was very much in keeping with the day.

A reception that started as it meant to go on

Kaitlyn and Scott came into the room with their arms in the air, surrounded by guests waving napkins. There was no slow build-up here. Everyone was straight into it.

During the speeches I kept looking around the tables as well as towards the microphone. Bridesmaids covering their faces, guests doubled over laughing and Scott holding up a packet of nappies: these are the little pieces that bring the whole story back. The reactions are every bit as important as the person telling the joke.

The party never really stopped

Dean Saunders brought the pipes into the celebrations, and the room went for it. Napkins, hands and hats were in the air. It was brilliant to photograph a crowd having that much fun together.

Woo Hoo kept the dance floor moving into the evening. From big hugs to sunglasses and Kaitlyn's change of dress, there were so many moments that showed just how much everyone was enjoying themselves.

Champagne and portraits in the rain

The rain gave us a different way to finish the photographs. We headed outside for the champagne spray, then made a few portraits with the rain lit up behind Kaitlyn and Scott. They were still laughing, still up for it and very much enjoying their wedding.

That is what I remember most about this day: the warmth of the people and how much fun they had together. It was a privilege to photograph another celebration for this family.

If rain turns up on your wedding day, we can work around it and make the most of any chances to step outside. Kaitlyn and Scott's evening photographs are a lovely reminder that the weather can become part of the story.

The driveway and grounds make it easy to build a short portrait walk into the day. I would keep the family list manageable and leave a little space in the timetable so photographs feel relaxed rather than rushed.

Rain does not have to put an end to outdoor photographs — the evening portraits in this story are a lovely example. We can work around any breaks in the weather, use the house for shelter and only head out when you are comfortable.
