First time at Dundas Castle

What a place for my first visit. Dundas Castle is such a stunning estate, and Kim and Kenneth gave me an unbelievable day to photograph.

These two met in London. Kenneth is Scottish and Kim is from England, and they brought everyone together at Dundas for their wedding. An outdoor ceremony, a Chinese tea ceremony, a lion dance, cocktails, a ceilidh and fireworks. There was so much to enjoy, and I absolutely loved being there.

If you’re looking for a Scottish castle wedding venue, this is one I’d really encourage you to visit. The setting is spectacular, and the photographs below will give you a wee look at what we got up to.

An outdoor ceremony at Dundas Castle

Kim and Kenneth had their ceremony outside in the courtyard, led by Pastor Yinka from Kenneth’s church. The sunshine, the flowers and those castle walls around everyone — what a place to get married.

There were some brilliant reactions from their guests, and that walk back down the aisle was lovely. Arms up, everyone cheering and the two of them absolutely beaming.

Up to the top of the Auld Keep

Then we headed up the tower for a few photographs. I couldn’t believe the view. You could see across the estate and out towards the Forth Road Bridge and the Forth Bridge.

We had a wee wander around the rooftop, caught the breeze in Kim’s veil and made the most of that sunshine. Even the stone staircase gave us something lovely on the way back down. Such a fantastic part of the castle to photograph.

My first Chinese tea ceremony

This was the first Chinese tea ceremony I’d photographed, and I loved being part of it. Kim and Kenneth shared tea with their family, gifts were given and there were some lovely moments between them all.

We made time for family and wedding-party photographs too. They were such a fun bunch, and it didn’t take much encouragement for everyone to get involved.

A wee wander around the castle

Dundas gives you so much to work with. The wood-panelled hall, the stone archways, the lawns and that incredible castle behind you. We grabbed a few portraits as we went, with plenty of laughing along the way.

I’ll help you find the light and give you a little direction, but I want you to feel like yourselves. Then it’s back to enjoying your family and friends while I catch the day as it happens.

Then the lions arrived

The Chinese lion dance was fantastic. The lions came right in among the guests, who fed them money, and the reactions were brilliant. What an experience to photograph.

Then it was into the Pavilion for dinner and speeches. Kim had the microphone, Kenneth was laughing and there was plenty going on around the tables. I love keeping an eye on those guest reactions as well as whoever is speaking.

Fireworks to finish

There was The Little Margarita Truck, a ceilidh and plenty of dancing with WooHoo. These two had packed so much into their day.

Then we headed outside for fireworks from 21CC Group. Kim and Kenneth together on the lawn, with the sky lighting up behind them. What a finish.

Thank you both for having me. My first wedding at Dundas Castle was an absolute pleasure, and I’d love to be back.
